Revised Sentra rear starter mounts

4.0

engine

DETAIL:

I have decided to make some modifications to my oil system and rear starter.  I am going to run my Stromberg carb gravity feed so a fuel pump is not needed.  Now that the fuel pump is gone there really is no need for the starter to hang off the side. Now I can fabricate an aluminum plate to replace the top cover and the starter can be mounted on top (still rear start). Since the starter will be on top there is nothing obstructing the stock oil cooler location.  So I figured why plumb lines to a remote cooler if it's not needed.

It's really going to work out for the best to move the starter to the top of
the engine and run a stock oil cooler.

For the starter mounts I used .065 wall 3/4" square 4130 tube.  The starter is supported by it's two holes near the pinion gear end and also supported by a tab at the rear.

The rigidity of the starter is amazing.  Zero flexing.  My last version with the aluminum mounts would allow it to flex about 1/16".  This new version is 100% solid. See pics below.
