Prepared fuselage for plywood skins

4.0

fuselage

DETAIL:

Progress this week has been a bit slow due to my driving up to Sacramento to pick up the other GN-1 I bought.  I'm just now getting my shop back in order.

I began getting the fuselage sides ready for the 3/32" plywood skins.  I'm using Okoume BS-6566 marine grade plywood.  I had it trucked in from Canada.  $27 a 4x8 sheet.  Not a bad price.  I'm also going to be using 1/4" of the same stuff for the floor.

I have to varnish the areas that will be hidden between gussets because once the ply is on it will be impossible to hit those areas later.  I taped off the plywood side with 1" masking tape where the longerons and uprights contact it. Then I varnished the entire piece.  I'll pull the tape off and I'll have raw wood where the epoxy will go.

provide a flat surface for the nut and washer to fix aganst.

My "new" GN-1 shown in the shop.  It barely fits!
