Corvair engine work

1.5

--------

DETAIL:

*EDIT 4/2004*  I no longer have the AeroCarb.  There were several issues that I could not get worked out.  I felt it best to get rid of it and I bought a 0 time Stromberg NAS3A1.  I no longer endorse the AeroCarb for use with a Corvair, but bear in mind I only have about 15hrs worth of run time on it, so my "endorsement" isn't worth much anyhow.

Over the past couple of months I have been pulling together all the materials and parts I'll need to finish building my '65 110hp. Corvair engine.  My goal is to have a running engine by December.

I have all that is needed now except for minor things like oil temp/press gauges & sending units, intake manifolds/tubing & exhaust. I'll be fabricating my own intake tubing from either 1.5" aluminum tube or thin wall steel tube.  The exhaust system will utilize the stock Corvair "logs" and I will attach a fabricated exhaust tube system to it.  I will probably run a small automotive muffler to keep the noise levels down.  Gotta keep the civilians happy so they don't impose any more noise abatement rules here at Falcon Field.

I purchased my carburetor a couple days ago.  I opted for the Aero Conversions "Aero Carb".  A finely crafted and beautiful looking carb.  It does not have a float so it can be used as a side draft, up draft, down draft, or "any which way" draft.  Very versatile and easy to mount. I chose the 32mm version which is supposed to work very well according to William Wyne (Corvair guru).

I'll be assembling the engine within 2-4 weeks.  I will take lots of photos.  I'm very anxious to get the engine running on the test stand.  It will be a huge motivator to get the rest of the plane complete!

Below are some photos of the Aero Carb.  Isn't is gorgeous?!
