Fuselage side gussets aft of rear seat

3.0

fuselage

DETAIL:

Today I cut and glued on the fuselage side gussets aft of the rear seat.  I have deviated from plans on this as the plans called for plywood on the sides from firewall to tailpost.  This is unnecessary and doesn't help the inherently tail heavy condition of the GN-1.

I've done my sides a la Pietenpol style.  I used oversized marine ply gussets and figure I've lost about 3 lbs in the tail if you add up wood, glue and varnish that has been eliminated.  That 3lbs at the tail means about 10 at the nose, so it's likely that I've made my plane 13 lbs lighter!

I also put on the gussets that go across the top of the fuse at the instrument panels and firewall.  See pics below.
