I figured while I'm waiting for my
plywood order to arrive I would do some initial layout design of my instrument
panel. I have looked at many other homebuilders layouts. Everyone
seems to have their own preferences on where to put what.
I like keeping my flight instruments in the 3.125" size and engine and other misc gauges at 2.25" I wanted airspeed and altitude at the top and most visible. I'm probably going to go with Micro Air 760 VHF 2.25" panel mount transceiver. It's compact and fits perfectly in my panel. For compass I think I have decided to use a vertical card compass. I'm just not too sure if I can mount it in the panel. I hear a lot about keeping the compass out of the panel but I wonder if that applies only to the floating liquid style compasses. I'll have to see if that goes for vertical card compasses as well. Here is what I have in the panel: airspeed, altitude, VSI, TC, compass, tach, amp/volt, OT/OP, chronograph, transceiver, intercom, and various switches for electrical. Switches are circuit breaker type. The picture below is a thumbnail, click it to see the panel at a larger size |
