Cabanes and more combing work |

Did some work on the cabanes
today. I am using SkyTek aluminum struts for cabanes and lift struts.
About $1,000 cheaper than 4130 streamline tube and a tad bit lighter. Strength
of these struts is more than enough. The struts are equally as strong as
Cessna 152 struts.
They are extruded and are hollow but have "flats" on the inside to allow a 3/4" x 1" bar to be placed inside and bolted. This bar extends out past the strut by an inch or so and that is whats used to terminate the end and bolt up to another member. A very simple yet effective method. I cut all the cabanes to size, cut some aluminum bar for the lower ends and assembled everything with AN4 and AN5 hardware. I then cut the front aluminum combing to clear around the struts. Next I fit and drilled the engine mounts. The fuse is coming along nicely! I'd say I'm at the 80% completed mark. Of course the last 20% takes just as long as the first 80, but it's really looking good! Next I'll be starting the wing center section.
