Passenger door & rudder cable Delrin rubbing blocks

4.0

fuselage

DETAIL:

I cut out the door from the right side front cockpit. Next I'll be hinging it and building up the sides so that it can be covered with fabric. I'm going to fabricate a simple latch mechanism from some 3/16" music wire. More details to follow when I get to that.

Some people have asked for details on the door.  What I did was put a 1"x2" Sitka Spruce door sill directly underneath the door.  Then I put an oversized 4" gusset plate made form 1/8" ply over that. A diagonal is placed from the lower rear corner to the upper corner of the sill. This adequately transmits the load from the front upright to the rear one. Here's a pic from when I framed in the door many months ago... click here to see it.

I also made some fairlead/rubbing blocks from some 3/8" Delrin.  The cables were rubbing the seat bottom cross member so I made the blocks to push the cable away about .75".  Delrin is great stuff!
