Front cockpit throttle control & other misc stuff

5.0

fuselage

DETAIL:

Put the front cockpit throttle control in today.  I had an extra lever from y rear cockpit quadrant.  The quadrant I had was a 3 control (throttle, mixture, prop).  I took the prop control off and used it for the front.

I made some Delrin spacers/bearings from some scrap 3/8" Delrin pieces I bought on ebay for $9.  Delrin is a wonderful thing.  I bought enough of it to last a lifetime.  It's great for things like this or for making fairleads. I cut some discs of it on my band saw.  I then drilled a 3/16" hole through the middle through which I screwed some AN3 bolts.  I then chucked the bolt up into my cordless drill.  While spinning the bolt/Delrin disc and holding it against my 12" disc sander with 80 grit I managed to get nice perfectly round Delrin spacers/bearings.  This method is called the poor mans lathe!

I've also spent a few hours prepping the tail feathers for the final coat of varnish.  They are just about ready for covering!

oh yeah.....  I'll be painting the throttle control black.... so as not to confuse the front pilot into thinking I have a constant speed prop hangin' from the Corvair.
