Extruded aluminum lift strut ends

6.0

wings

DETAIL:

I am using Skytek extruded aluminum streamline lift struts instead of 4130 struts.  The aluminum struts have flat spots on the inside to allow for a bar to be placed inside and bolted into place.

On the inboard ends of the struts I decided to make both the front and rear struts adjustable via a set of Piper J-3 lift strut forks.  I designed a 4130 steel insert that is threaded 1.5" deep to allow for the 7/16-20 threads of the lift strut fork.  The insert was made form 4130 solid round bar. It has machined flat spots to allow it to slip into the aluminum strut.  It is then bolted to the strut with 2 AN4 bolts.

Pics below show it better than I can describe.
