Tailwheel control cables & retractable boarding step |

I installed the tail wheel control springs and cables. The standard method as per plans has some small "horns" bolted to the lower rudder with the springs and chains from the tail wheel hooking to that. The problem is the angle from the horns down to the tailwheel is too steep. The horns get pulled down and bent when I tried it that way. I then tapped the tailwheel control cables into the rudder cables. This method may get changed. I'm considering tapping into the rudder cables much further forward than they are in the picture below.... maybe just behind the aft seat. I would then run some pulleys on the tail wheel wires just before they exit the fuse. Mike Cuy has his done that way and I think it's a damn good idea.
I also built the retractable boarding step.
It's just some 4130 tubing that telescopes into a larger size tube. I
welded a large disc on the end of the step rod to keep it from going in too far
and to also facilitate pulling the step out. It's mounted to a solid block of Spruce just aft of
the rear seat right above the lower longeron. I pulled it out and put my full
weight on it. Even gave it a good couple of bounces. Should be
capable of holding a 200lb load. |
