Put on the left side stringer this week. Had the option of doing two stringers or one. I chose the easier way and went with one stringer. I used a piece of string tied to two nails. One at the firewall and one at the tail post. I then traced with a pencil where this string was onto the side of the fuse. It was then just a matter of putting 1/4" x 1" the stringer on. I used 1" triangle pieces spaced 8" apart to support the stringer. The next project was building up the fuse around the metal fittings. I have to do this because the fabric is tapered from the top longeron to the bottom as it it "pulled" away from the fuse between these points by the stringer. I want to be able to get at all my cabane and landing gear fitting bolts and the only way to do that is to make the covering stop before them and use little .020 aluminum cover plates to cover them up. Building this up is a little tricky because of the angles involved. Some pics below show what I'm talking about. Lastly I had to put some angled filler pieces up front flush with he firewall. These are also used to attach the fabric to.
You may recall in previous posts I stated that as soon as the controls were in I
was going to start the wings.... I've changed my mind. I'm gonna
keep going on the fuse until it's 99% complete and then I'll start the wings.
Hopefully in the next couple months. |
